Hugh Lomas, a native of Birmingham England, has always had a passion for English shotguns and the shooting sports. With family members connected with the gun and related trades entering the gunmaking trade as an apprentice would have appeared an obvious choice. However, the decline in sporting gun production in the Midlands and lack of apprenticeship openings prevented this at that time.
A career in Mechanical Engineering brought him to the US in the late 70's, since then Hugh has gradually built up the skills and business clientele to allow him to devote his energies full time to the repair and restoration of fine sporting guns. Operating from spacious and secure premises in Wisconsin's Elkhart Lake, Hugh Lomas is able to perform a wide range of repair service.
Lomas overhauls and repairs sporting rifles and shotguns. He also builds rifles and shotguns from scratch. A significant part of the business is the import, recondition and resale of handmade British doubles. Hugh holds a wealth of technical skills including gunstock bending and adjustment which ensures a perfect fit and improves your performance. Watch the sidelines at shooting competitions - you just may see Hugh with his makeshift bench performing on-the-spot repairs for gaming competitors.
Hugh Lomas has received national attention in Outdoor Life (Feb 2006) and Double Gun Journal periodical (Summer 2005). Lomas was also recommended by Chris Batha as a superior gunsmith and has been recommended on Shotgun World, Parker Gun Collectors Association and Shooting Sportsman.
To this day Lomas has continued his passion for collecting, restoring and refurbishing, fine shotguns and rifles at his gunsmith and repair shop, H.G. Lomas Gunmakers Inc.
